This Privacy Policy explains how ReadLock (“we,” “us,” “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the ReadLock mobile app (the “Services”).

1) What information we collect

A. Information you provide

Depending on how you use the app, you may provide:

  • Account information: name and email address (if you sign in)
  • Reading data you enter: books you add, pages read, reading notes, categories, and session preferences
  • Support messages: information you include when you contact us

Guest mode: If you use ReadLock without an account, we may store your reading data remotely/locally on your device and/or in a way that does not identify you (depending on your configuration).

B. Information collected automatically

When you use the app, we may automatically collect:

  • Device and app information (e.g., device model, OS version, app version, language)
  • Log/events data (e.g., app crashes, performance metrics, basic usage events)
  • Approximate location (derived from IP address) only if collected by our analytics/ads providers

C. Screen Time / App Blocking permission (Apple)

ReadLock uses Apple Screen Time APIs (e.g., FamilyControls/DeviceActivity) to help you block selected distracting apps and website categories during reading sessions.

Important: ReadLock does not read the content of other apps, your browsing content, messages, or keystrokes. The Screen Time permission is used only to apply and manage the blocks you set.

2) How we use your information

We use information to:

  • Provide and operate the app features (reading sessions, blocking, progress tracking, notes)
  • Maintain security, prevent abuse, and debug issues
  • Improve the app (product analytics and performance)
  • Communicate with you (support and important service updates)
  • Show ads (if you use the free version) and manage subscriptions (if you purchase premium)

3) When we share information

We may share information:

  • With service providers that help us run the app (e.g., analytics, crash reporting, ad networks, paywall/subscription tools)
  • For legal reasons (to comply with law, enforce our terms, protect safety and rights)
  • Business transfers (if we’re involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale)

We do not sell your personal information in the traditional sense. If you use ad-supported features, some data may be used for targeted advertising by ad partners depending on your device settings and region.

4) Third-party services we use (examples)

Depending on what you enable in the app, we may use:

  • Google Sign-In / Sign in with Apple (for authentication)
  • AdMob (Google) (for ads shown to free users)
  • Superwall (to power paywall experiments and subscription flows)

These third parties process information under their own privacy policies. You can also control ad personalization in your device settings where available.

5) Your choices

  • Screen Time permission: You can disable ReadLock’s blocking features by revoking Screen Time permission in iOS Settings.
  • Notifications: You can turn off notifications in your device settings.
  • Ads: If available in your region, you can limit ad tracking/personalization via iOS privacy settings.
  • Account: You can request deletion of your account data by contacting readlockapp@gmail.com.

6) Data retention

We keep information only as long as needed to provide the Services and for legitimate business purposes (such as security, compliance, and dispute resolution). If you request deletion, we will delete or de-identify information unless we must keep something for legal reasons.

7) Data security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your information. However, no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8) Children’s privacy

ReadLock is not intended for children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child provided personal data, contact us at readlockapp@gmail.com.

9) Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or object to certain processing of your personal information. To exercise these rights, email readlockapp@gmail.com.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date and, where required, provide additional notice.
