This Privacy Policy explains how ReadLock (“we,” “us,” “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the ReadLock mobile app (the “Services”).

1) What information we collect

Section titled “A. Information you provide”When you use ReadLock, you may provide:
- Reading data: books you add (by scan or search), pages read, reading notes, chapter summaries, categories, and session preferences
- Support messages: information you include when you contact us
We do not collect your name or email address. ReadLock uses anonymous authentication — you are never required to create an account or provide personal information to use the app.
B. Information collected automatically
Section titled “B. Information collected automatically”When you use the app, we automatically collect:
- Device and app information (e.g., device model, OS version, app version, language)
- App usage events (e.g., features used, screens viewed, session length) — used solely to understand how features are being used and to improve the app
- Crash and performance data (e.g., app crashes, stability metrics)
- Approximate location (country/region level only, derived from IP address by our analytics provider)
None of this data is linked to your identity.
C. AI Comprehension Scoring
Section titled “C. AI Comprehension Scoring”When you submit reading notes at the end of a session, ReadLock uses AI to compare your notes against your declared pages read and generate a comprehension score and summary suggestion. This processing is used only to provide the feature to you and is not stored for advertising or profiling purposes.
D. Screen Time / App Blocking permission (Apple)
Section titled “D. Screen Time / App Blocking permission (Apple)”ReadLock uses Apple’s Screen Time APIs (FamilyControls / DeviceActivity) to lock selected apps and website categories during your reading sessions.
Important: ReadLock does not read the content of other apps, your browsing history, messages, or keystrokes. The Screen Time permission is used only to apply and manage the blocks you set.
2) How we use your information

- Provide and operate app features (reading sessions, app blocking, progress tracking, AI scoring, notes)
- Maintain security, prevent abuse, and debug issues
- Understand which features are used and improve the app experience
- Communicate with you (support and important service updates)
- Show ads (if you use the free version) and manage subscriptions (if you purchase premium)
We do not use analytics data for advertising targeting or profiling.
3) When we share information
Section titled “3) When we share information”We may share information:
- With service providers that help us run the app (e.g., analytics, crash reporting, ad networks, paywall/subscription tools)
- For legal reasons (to comply with law, enforce our terms, protect safety and rights)
- In a business transfer (if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale)
We do not sell your personal information.
4) Third-party services we use

Google / Firebase
Section titled “Google / Firebase”ReadLock uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Anonymous Auth, both operated by Google. Google processes data collected through these services under its own terms. For details, see:

5) Your choices
Section titled “5) Your choices”- Screen Time permission: You can disable ReadLock’s app blocking by revoking Screen Time permission in iOS Settings.
- Notifications: You can turn off notifications in your device settings.
- Ads: You can limit ad tracking or personalization via iOS Privacy Settings → Tracking.
- Firebase Analytics opt-out: You can limit Firebase Analytics data collection by going to iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking and disabling tracking for ReadLock. Alternatively, contact us at readlockapp@gmail.com to request that analytics collection be disabled for your session.
- Google Analytics opt-out (general): You can also use Google’s opt-out tool at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout for browser-based opt-out.
- Data deletion: You can request deletion of your anonymous session data by contacting readlockapp@gmail.com.
6) Data retention
Section titled “6) Data retention”We retain data only as long as needed to provide the Services and for legitimate business purposes (security, compliance, and dispute resolution). Anonymous usage data is retained in aggregated form. If you request deletion, we will delete or de-identify your data unless retention is required by law.
7) Data security
Section titled “7) Data security”We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your information. However, no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8) Children’s privacy
Section titled “8) Children’s privacy”ReadLock is not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since ReadLock uses anonymous authentication, no personal data is required to use the app. If you believe a child has submitted personal data, contact us at readlockapp@gmail.com.
9) Your privacy rights
Section titled “9) Your privacy rights”Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or object to certain processing of your data. Since ReadLock does not collect personally identifiable information, most data we hold cannot be linked back to you. To exercise any rights or ask questions, email readlockapp@gmail.com.
10) Changes to this policy
Section titled “10) Changes to this policy”We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date and, where required, provide additional notice.
