Terms of Use (ReadLock)

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of the ReadLock mobile app (“ReadLock,” “we,” “us,” “our”) and related services (the “Services”). By using the Services, you agree to these Terms.
If you do not agree, do not use the Services.

1) Who can use ReadLock
Section titled “1) Who can use ReadLock”You must be able to form a legally binding contract in your country to use ReadLock. If you are under the minimum age required where you live, you may only use ReadLock with a parent/guardian’s permission.
2) What ReadLock does
Section titled “2) What ReadLock does”ReadLock helps you stay focused during reading sessions by allowing you to:
- Add and manage books (hardcopy or softcopy)
- Track reading progress and notes
- Use Apple Screen Time APIs (FamilyControls / DeviceActivity / ManagedSettings) to shield selected apps and website categories during scheduled sessions (if you grant permission)
Important: ReadLock does not read the content of other apps, your messages, or your browsing content. The Screen Time permission is used only to apply and manage the restrictions you configure.
3) Accounts and guest mode
Section titled “3) Accounts and guest mode”You may use ReadLock:
- As a guest (anonymous sign-in), or
- With an account (e.g., Sign in with Apple / Google, where available)
You are responsible for activities under your account and for keeping your device secure.
4) Your content (books, notes, progress)
Section titled “4) Your content (books, notes, progress)”You own the content you enter into ReadLock (such as book details, notes, and progress).
By using ReadLock, you grant us a limited license to host, store, and process your content only to operate and improve the Services (for example: syncing your notes, showing your library, restoring data).
5) Acceptable use
Section titled “5) Acceptable use”You agree not to:
- Use the Services for unlawful purposes
- Attempt to reverse engineer, bypass, or interfere with the Services (including app-blocking logic)
- Abuse, overload, or disrupt our systems
We may suspend or terminate access if we believe you are violating these Terms.
6) Screen Time permissions and limitations
Section titled “6) Screen Time permissions and limitations”ReadLock’s blocking features require Screen Time permission. You can revoke permission at any time in iOS Settings.
You understand that:
- The blocking feature depends on Apple’s Screen Time frameworks and device settings
- Some restrictions may not apply in all situations (e.g., OS limitations, device policies, network conditions)
- ReadLock cannot guarantee you will achieve a specific reading outcome
7) Ads, subscriptions, and purchases
Section titled “7) Ads, subscriptions, and purchases”ReadLock may offer:
- An ad-supported free experience (e.g., AdMob interstitial ads), and/or
- Premium features such as removing ads or other upgrades via subscription
If you purchase a subscription, billing and cancellations are handled by Apple via your App Store account. Prices may vary by region and can change as permitted by Apple’s policies.
8) Third-party services
Section titled “8) Third-party services”ReadLock may integrate third-party services (for example: Firebase, AdMob, Superwall, OneSignal, Sign in with Apple/Google). These services may have their own terms and privacy policies.
We are not responsible for third-party services or their content.
9) Termination
Section titled “9) Termination”You may stop using the Services at any time.
We may suspend or terminate your access if:
- required by law, or
- you violate these Terms, or
- the Services are discontinued
10) Disclaimers
Section titled “10) Disclaimers”The Services are provided “as is” and “as available.”
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
ReadLock is not medical or professional advice, and it is not a substitute for professional guidance.
11) Limitation of liability
Section titled “11) Limitation of liability”To the maximum extent permitted by law, ReadLock and its creators will not be liable for:
- indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
- loss of data, profits, or goodwill
- issues caused by device settings, OS behavior, or third-party services
In all cases, our total liability will not exceed the amount you paid to use ReadLock (if any) in the last 12 months.
12) Changes to these Terms
Section titled “12) Changes to these Terms”We may update these Terms from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date and, where required, provide additional notice.
