Terms of Use

Last updated: April 30, 2026

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of the ReadLock mobile app (“ReadLock,” “we,” “us,” “our”) and related services (the “Services”). By using the Services, you agree to these Terms.

If you do not agree, do not use the Services.

For questions, contact: readlockapp@gmail.com

You must be able to form a legally binding contract in your country to use ReadLock. If you are under the minimum age required where you live, you may only use ReadLock with a parent/guardian’s permission.

ReadLock helps you build a consistent reading habit by locking distracting apps until you complete your reading session. Specifically, ReadLock allows you to:

  • Add and manage books by scanning the cover or searching the title
  • Track reading progress, chapters, and session history
  • Take notes and receive AI-generated comprehension scores and summary suggestions after each session
  • Use Apple Screen Time APIs (FamilyControls / DeviceActivity / ManagedSettings) to lock selected apps and website categories during scheduled reading sessions (if you grant permission)
  • Unlock apps only after confirming your reading progress and notes

Important: ReadLock does not read the content of other apps, your messages, or your browsing content. The Screen Time permission is used only to apply and manage the restrictions you configure.

ReadLock uses anonymous authentication only. You are not required to provide a name, email address, or any personal information to use the app.

Your reading data (books, notes, progress, session history) is stored and associated with your anonymous session. You are responsible for keeping your device secure, as data loss may occur if your anonymous session is reset or the app is deleted.

ReadLock uses artificial intelligence to:

  • Score your comprehension — after each session, you submit notes on what you read. ReadLock’s AI compares your notes against your declared pages and generates a comprehension score before your apps unlock.
  • Suggest better summaries — ReadLock’s AI rewrites your notes into a cleaner, more structured summary to help reinforce understanding.

By using these features, you understand that:

  • AI-generated scores and summaries are for personal reflection and habit-building purposes only — they are not academic assessments or professional evaluations
  • AI outputs may occasionally be inaccurate or incomplete
  • You retain full ownership of the notes you submit

You own the content you enter into ReadLock (such as book details, notes, and reading progress).

By using ReadLock, you grant us a limited license to host, store, and process your content only to operate and improve the Services (for example: storing your library, showing your progress, generating AI summaries).

You agree not to:

  • Use the Services for unlawful purposes
  • Attempt to reverse engineer, bypass, or interfere with the Services (including app-blocking or AI logic)
  • Submit content that is harmful, abusive, or violates the rights of others
  • Abuse, overload, or disrupt our systems

We may suspend or terminate access if we believe you are violating these Terms.

7) Screen Time permissions and limitations

Section titled “7) Screen Time permissions and limitations”

ReadLock’s blocking features require Screen Time permission. You can revoke permission at any time in iOS Settings.

You understand that:

  • The blocking feature depends on Apple’s Screen Time frameworks and device settings
  • Some restrictions may not apply in all situations (e.g., OS limitations, device policies, or network conditions)
  • ReadLock cannot guarantee a specific reading outcome or habit result

ReadLock may offer:

  • An ad-supported free experience (e.g., interstitial ads via AdMob), and/or
  • A Premium subscription that removes ads and unlocks additional features

If you purchase a subscription, billing and cancellations are handled by Apple via your App Store account. Prices may vary by region and can change as permitted by Apple’s policies.

ReadLock integrates third-party services including Firebase (anonymous auth and analytics), AdMob, Superwall, and OneSignal. These services operate under their own terms and privacy policies.

We are not responsible for the content, availability, or practices of third-party services.

You may stop using the Services at any time by deleting the app.

We may suspend or terminate your access if:

  • Required by law, or
  • You violate these Terms, or
  • The Services are discontinued

The Services are provided “as is” and “as available.”

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

  • ReadLock is not a medical, psychological, or educational tool
  • AI comprehension scores are not academic or professional assessments
  • Reading habit outcomes vary by individual and are not guaranteed

To the maximum extent permitted by law, ReadLock and its creators will not be liable for:

  • Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
  • Loss of data, profits, or goodwill
  • Issues caused by device settings, OS behavior, or third-party services
  • Inaccurate or incomplete AI-generated outputs

In all cases, our total liability will not exceed the amount you paid to use ReadLock (if any) in the last 12 months.

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will update the “Last updated” date and, where required, provide additional notice. Continued use of the Services after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
